About Eric

I first wrote the story that became the I’m With The (Boy) Band series in 2000, posting it online as fanfiction in the era of LiveJournal, AOL Instant Messenger, mixtapes, and early reality television. It was also a time when hopeful queer stories—especially for young people—were still difficult to find.

Twenty-five years later, I returned to the story and reimagined it as an original queer YA trilogy about fame, first love, friendship, privacy, and the complicated difference between being seen and truly being known. Set at the early days of reality television and before social media made constant visibility feel inevitable, the series is both a love story and a time capsule.

It’s the kind of queer story I wish I could have found when I was younger: romantic, funny, hopeful, and interested in both the courage it takes to be seen and the value of having something that belongs only to you.

At its heart, I’m With The (Boy) Band is about two people trying to find something real in a world obsessed with reality.
